CRKN Adds Over 250 Issues of The Dawn of Tomorrow to Canadiana

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is proud to share that researchers can now explore over 250 additional issues of the historic Black Canadian newspaper The Dawn of Tomorrow on Canadiana.
Founded by James Francis Jenkins and Christina Jenkins in London, Ontario in 1923, The Dawn of Tomorrow chronicled years of local, national, and international Black history. Across the decades, The Dawn of Tomorrow celebrated Black culture, promoted unity among Black communities, and countered racist narratives, making it a critical resource for researchers studying history in Canada.
Early issues of The Dawn of Tomorrow were previously available on Canadiana in limited numbers. With this new release, hundreds of additional issues published until 1972 have been digitized, enhancing access for researchers and expanding Canadiana’s diverse collection of newspapers. Having this vital historical newspaper available on Canadiana is part of CRKN’s efforts to broaden the Canadiana collections to better reflect the diversity of Canada.
CRKN extends our sincere thanks to Barry Howson for his support throughout this initiative. For more information about The Dawn of Tomorrow on Canadiana, please contact Francesca Brzezicki, Heritage Engagement Officer, at fbrzezicki@crkn.ca.
